Privacy notice
Last updated 1 September 2026
The short version: we ask for an email address or a mobile number so we can sign you in and tell you if you win. We do not sell it, and we do not give it to anyone else.
Who is responsible
Caption Likho, Chandigarh, India, decides how your personal data is used here. In the language of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, we are the Data Fiduciary and you are the Data Principal.
What we collect
| What | Why we need it |
|---|---|
| Your email address or mobile number | To sign you in with a one-time code, and to tell you if you win |
| Your name or nickname | To show who wrote a caption. You choose what this says |
| The captions you write and the votes you cast | To run the contest and count the result |
| Basic technical records — the time of a request, an IP address | To keep the site working and to spot duplicate accounts and vote rigging |
We do not ask for your address, your date of birth, your bank details, or any identity document. If anyone asks you for those in our name, it is not us.
What we do not do with it
- We do not sell it, rent it, or trade it.
- We do not use it to advertise to you.
- We do not give it to a business sponsoring a prize — with one exception, below.
The one time we share a contact detail
When a prize comes from a business sponsoring a contest, that business needs to reach the winner to hand it over. So the winner's name and contact detail — and nobody else's — may be shared with that business, for that purpose only, and we tell the winner before we do it. If a winner would rather we passed the prize on ourselves, we will.
Beyond that, your data is handled only by the services that run this site — our hosting provider, and the provider that sends the sign-in code to your email or phone. They process it on our instructions and for nothing else.
Consent, and taking it back
You give us this data when you sign in and when you enter or vote, for the purposes described above. You can withdraw it at any time: sign in, open your profile, and close your account. It happens immediately — you do not have to ask us, and you do not have to explain why.
Withdrawing does not undo a contest that has already been counted. A published result stays published, for the reasons set out under How long we keep it below — which is the one part of this page worth reading before you close an account rather than after.
How long we keep it
- Your account and contact detail: for as long as you use the site. We do not delete dormant accounts automatically. You can close yours yourself at any time from your profile page, and your name and contact detail stop appearing on the site straight away.
- Captions and votes: kept while the contest results stay published, so past results remain checkable. If you close your account, the captions you wrote stop showing your name. Votes you cast stay counted — removing them would change a result somebody else has already been told they won.
- Winners: the winning caption, display name, prize and date stay on the winners page. That page is what shows a stranger this contest is real — a site that quietly loses its winners is a site nobody can check. This outlasts your account. If you win and later close your account, the name you had when you won stays on that page. We keep it because the result is a public record and other entrants are entitled to see it stand, not because we need it for anything else. If you would rather it showed a nickname, write to us and we will change it — before or after you close your account.
- Technical records: up to 90 days.
Your rights
Under the DPDP Act you can ask us to:
- tell you what data of yours we hold and who we shared it with;
- correct anything wrong or incomplete;
- delete your data and your account — you can do this yourself, immediately, from your profile; writing to us works too;
- nominate somebody to exercise these rights for you if you die or become unable to.
Closing your account is the one you can do yourself. For anything else, write to the contact below: we reply within 24 hours and act on it within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with how we handled it, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
Children
We do not ask your age, so we do not know how old you are. What we can say is what we do not do: we do not track anyone, we do not profile anyone, and we never show advertising of any kind — to children or to adults.
If you are a parent or guardian and you want your child's account and everything attached to it removed, write to the contact below and we will delete it. You do not have to explain why.
Keeping it safe
Sign-in is by one-time code, so there is no password of yours for anyone to steal. Traffic to this site is encrypted. Access to the database is limited to the people running the contest. If a breach happens that affects you, we will tell you and the Data Protection Board.
Getting in touch
Questions or complaints about your data go to our grievance contact: grievance@captionlikho.com . We answer within 24 hours.
Changes
If this notice changes, the date at the top changes with it. If a change affects how we use data you have already given us, we will tell you before it takes effect.
