Terms and conditions

Last updated 1 September 2026

Plain English, because terms nobody reads protect nobody. If anything below is unclear, ask us before you enter — the contact details are at the end.

Free to enter. We will never ask you to pay anything. There is no entry fee, no payment, no purchase and no deposit at any stage, and no fee is ever charged to release a prize. Nothing you do on this site costs money.

1. Who these terms are between

These terms are between Caption Likho ("we", "us"), which runs Caption Likho from Chandigarh, India, and you, the person using this site. By entering a contest or voting, you accept these terms.

2. Who can take part

  • You must be resident in the Chandigarh tricity area (Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula).
  • You may hold only one account. Accounts created to enter more than once, or to vote more than once, are removed along with anything done from them.
  • People who run this site, anyone helping run a contest, and the immediate families of either, cannot win a prize in that contest. They may still take part.

We may ask you to confirm where you live before handing over a prize. If you cannot, we may pick another winner.

3. Entering

  • One caption per person per contest.
  • The caption must be your own work. Do not submit something you copied, and do not submit anything containing another person's private information.
  • Entries close at the time shown on the contest page. That time does not move once a contest has started.
  • Every caption is read by us before it appears. We may decline to publish one without explaining why — see clause 6.

4. Voting

  • One vote per person per contest.
  • Do not arrange for votes to be cast from accounts that are not genuinely other people's. Votes we believe came from duplicate or automated accounts are removed before the count, and the entry they were cast for may be disqualified.
  • Voting closes when the contest closes.

5. How the winner is decided

  • The published caption with the most votes at closing wins.
  • If two are tied, the one submitted earliest wins.
  • Where a contest also offers a prize to voters, it is drawn at random from everyone who voted for the winning caption. Entry to that draw is free and automatic, and no payment or purchase of any kind improves anyone's chance.
  • The result is published on the winners page within 48 hours of closing.
  • A published result stays published. If a winner later closes their account, their winning caption and the name they had at the time remain on the winners page — a result that disappears is one nobody can check. A winner who would rather appear under a nickname can ask us, at any time.
  • Our decision on the count is final, but if we get something wrong we will correct it publicly on the winners page rather than quietly.

6. What you may not post

Captions must not contain anything that is:

  • obscene, hateful, threatening, or abusive towards any person or group;
  • defamatory, or an invasion of somebody's privacy;
  • somebody else's copyrighted work;
  • an advertisement, or a link to one;
  • unlawful under Indian law.

We may remove a caption, refuse an entry, or close an account for breaking this clause. If something has been published that should not have been, tell us using the contact details below and we will look at it within 24 hours.

7. Your caption stays yours

You keep ownership of everything you write. By entering, you give us permission to display your caption on this site and to use it, with the name shown on your entry, to promote the contest — for example in a post announcing the winner. This permission is free of charge and continues after the contest ends so that past results stay readable.

We never publish your email address or phone number alongside a caption. If you want a caption of yours taken down, ask us and we will remove it.

You can close your account yourself, at any time, from your profile page. Your captions stop showing your name when you do. Two things deliberately survive it: votes you cast stay counted, because withdrawing them would change a result somebody else has already been told they won, and a win of your own stays on the winners page as described in clause 5.

8. Prizes

  • The prize for each contest is the one described on that contest's page.
  • Prizes are not transferable and there is no cash alternative, unless the prize is itself cash or a voucher.
  • We contact the winner using the email address or mobile number they signed in with, within 48 hours of the result.
  • A winner has 7 days to reply. After that we may award the prize to the next caption in the count.
  • We hand over the prize within 7 days of hearing back.
  • Any tax payable on a prize is the winner's own responsibility.
  • Where a prize is provided by a business sponsoring the contest, we share the winner's name and contact details with that business only so the prize can be handed over, and only after telling the winner. No other entrant's details are ever shared with anybody — see our privacy notice.

9. If a contest has to change

We may cancel, shorten or extend a contest if something makes running it fairly impossible — a fault on the site, a prize that cannot be supplied, or organised cheating. If we do, we will say so on the contest page and explain why. If a contest is cancelled after entries have opened, nobody is left out of pocket, because entering never costs anything.

10. What we are not responsible for

We run this site carefully but we cannot promise it will always be available or free of faults. We are not responsible for entries or votes lost to a network failure, a device failure, or an outage. Nothing in these terms limits liability for fraud, or for anything that cannot be limited under Indian law.

11. Your personal data

What we collect, why, how long we keep it and what you can ask us to do about it are set out in the privacy notice, which forms part of these terms.

12. Complaints

Tell us and we will answer within 24 hours. Email grievance@captionlikho.com.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed. A contest is always run under the terms that were published when it opened.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts at Chandigarh, India have jurisdiction.
